Since ‘R.B.I. Baseball 14’ was announced with much fanfare and warm, fuzzy nostalgic feelings back in January, little has been heard about the game. No posts from the official Twitter and Facebook pages, no screenshots released, no video unveiled.
Finally, some concrete news has arrived, with the upcoming baseball game getting a release date.
‘R.B.I. 14’ will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS and Android devices on Thursday, April 10.
At first glance, the surprising detail is that no date was given for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. It is unclear whether or not the game is even still being released on the next-gen consoles.
It’s also odd that the game is releasing on a Thursday. Most major game releases hit stores on Tuesdays. Might this be an indication that ‘R.B.I. 14’ will only be available as a digital download instead of a standalone retail game?
Many things are left to speculate about, as news has been slow to leak out about the game. Hopefully, now with a defined release date, more details emerge soon about one of the more intriguing sports games of 2014.
And, as a special Friday treat, here’s the amazing video recreation of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series using the original NES ‘R.B.I. Baseball’ and Vin Scully’s play-by-play call.
