I’m taking a bit of a detour with today’s entry into this ongoing series, focusing on events instead of items, but the concerts that the Mets will be holding following several games this year need to be called out.
New York’s National League team might not be expected to win many games this year, but with names like 50 Cent and Huey Lewis & The News performing after home contests, the fans are the real winners.
Things kick off with rapper Curtis Jackson (AKA 50 Cent) performing on Saturday, June 15. The San Diego Padres are in town that day. The Mets’ front office already has a minor-league deal in place for the G-Unit leader to sign following the show.
Huey Lewis & The News are the next performers in the series, rocking out at Citi Field on Saturday, July 12. The Mets will try to harness the power of love as they take on the Miami Marlins that day.
On Saturday, August 16, Boyz II Men take the stage. That concert will take place following a game against the Chicago Cubs, so you know the slow jams will comfort anyone who actually watched the on-field action.
Last and very certainly the least, someone named Austin Mahone will perform on Saturday, Sept. 27 following a Mets/Astros tilt. The concert will still be better than the baseball.
There you have it, Mets fans. Four Saturdays that will define your summer. Just remember, it’s hip to be square.
